As citizens, we are entitled to be governed by the best people. No government should make life difficult for us. As youths, we say no to corrupt and bad government. Every country deserves good leaders who will make citizen's lives easy and their economy thrive. Sadly, bad governance has destabilized the citizens in Africa, Asia, and some other countries. Looking at it closely, it is not that the leaders are bad, but the country's political system doesn't give room for good governance. For instance, corruption is one of the most popular causes of bad governance, and its root causes that the system doesn't require leaders to be accountable for their actions. causes of bad governance in a country:
- 1. Lack of accountability: When leaders aren't accountable for their actions and have no one to which they report, they can do anything they like. If countries can start making their leaders accountable for their finances and (in) actions, they will be forced to do the right thing to improve their citizens' lives .
- 2. Disregard of the Rule of Law: In some countries, especially in Africa, governments show little regard for the rights of citizens. Leaders who are supposed to be good examples for the citizens do things against the law and go scot-free. Examples of these are: Ordering the unlawful arrest of a citizen, disobeying court orders, releasing criminals from prison, etc. Once leaders show regard for the law, the country's citizens can start seeing the benefit of good governance.
- 3. Incompetence in Leadership: Some leaders aren't qualified to lead a country, but they bribe their way and cheat the faulty system to the top. These leaders turn out to be a menace to the citizens with their terrible decisions and disregard for the lives of citizens.
- 4. Marginalization: Another top cause of bad governance is marginalization. This is when a leader secludes a particular geological area, tribe, state, or town from their plan for some reason. When a particular set of people fail to enjoy the privilege other people enjoy, it is bad governance, and those discriminated against fail to enjoy the benefits of the government.
- 5. A Failed Democracy Most African countries are currently practicing a failed democracy where leaders aren't accountable, elections aren't free and fair, and leaders cheat their way to the top. Every citizen is entitled to a working democracy. Their voice deserves to be heard, and the leaders they voted in have to make lives easier for them. A Call to Take Action No country deserves to be led by people who are corrupt, incompetent and has no regard for the law. As youths, we say no to corrupt and bad governments. We want every citizen to enjoy the benefit of good governance. We want elections to be free and fair. We want leaders to be accountable for their actions. We want leaders to stop discriminating against a particular set of people. Not only that, we want competent leaders!!! Once again, we say no to bad governance. And yes, too good governance.
To end climate change and its effect on the environment, we have to come together as youths, to spread awareness to people and protest for government to support zero-emissions vehicle manufacture, enforce laws against deforestation, etc.
